At Heart and Soul Equine Therapies, your horse’s wellbeing is at the centre of everything I do. With genuine care, empathy, and a deep understanding of equine needs, I provide sports massage, red light therapy, and laser phototherapy to support comfort, recovery, and performance. My goal is to help every horse feel their best - mind, body and soul.
About
My name is Tash Neeland, and my connection with horses began in Gunnedah, country NSW, where I was born and first discovered a deep appreciation for these amazing animals. Although I dreamed of working with horses throughout my childhood, life initially took me in a different direction, and I spent many years in the corporate sector. I didn’t own my first horse until I was 29, and for a long time it seemed that a career with horses might remain only a dream. Today, that dream has become reality.Heart and Soul Equine Therapies was created in honour of my beloved Quarter Horse, Beau, my true heart horse. His memory inspires the compassion, patience, and dedication I bring to every horse I work with.
As a horse owner myself, I understand the joys they bring, the challenges they face, and how easily injuries can occur, even in the paddock. I share my life with horses who, due to past injuries, can no longer be ridden. Supporting their comfort, mobility, and quality of life has been a huge part of my journey and one of the reasons I was drawn to equine bodywork. Caring for them taught me just how much difference gentle, evidence‑based therapies can make, and it inspired me to help other horses feel their best too. This lived experience shapes the empathy and care at the core of my practice. I am committed to providing thoughtful, evidence‑based therapies that support comfort, mobility, and overall wellbeing.
I am committed to continually expanding my knowledge so I can offer the most up‑to‑date and effective therapies for every horse I work with. Ongoing education allows me to keep improving my skills and stay aligned with current best‑practice standards in equine care and I am currently studying for my Certificate in Photobiomodulation for Horses with Equestricare.
I offer a blend of evidence‑based bodywork and complementary modalities. Clients are always welcome to choose the approaches that feel right for them, and I respect that not every modality resonates with every person. My professional qualifications stand on their own, and all services are delivered with the same level of care, skill, and integrity.
My Equestricare training is internationally recognised through the Equine Therapies Association of Australia (ETAA), ensuring my qualifications meet established professional standards both within Australia and overseas.

My Mission
Commitment to Every Horse and Every Journey
At Heart and Soul Equine Therapies, my mission is to support every horse’s comfort, mobility, and wellbeing through compassionate, evidence‑based care.
Whether working with high‑performing equine athletes, young growing horses or much‑loved retirees, I strive to provide therapies that ease pain, enhance recovery, and promote long‑term health.
As a horse owner myself, I understand how easily injuries can occur and how deeply we care for our equine partners.
With empathy, respect, and a genuine dedication to their quality of life, I aim to help each horse feel their very best.
I believe the best outcomes for your horse come from a team approach. Every horse benefits when the professionals in their circle communicate and work together, so I’m always happy to collaborate with your veterinarian, farrier, chiropractor, dentist, saddle fitter, and other bodywork practitioners.
By sharing observations and aligning treatment plans, we can support your horse more effectively, ensure continuity of care, and address both the primary issue and any compensatory patterns that may develop.
My goal is to be part of a cohesive, supportive team that helps your horse feel and move at their best.

Equine Sports Massage
Equine sports massage is a hands‑on therapy that focuses on improving a horse’s muscle function, comfort, and overall wellbeing. By using targeted massage techniques, it helps release tension, increase circulation, support recovery from exercise, and maintain healthy movement patterns.
Whether for performance horses, growing youngsters or cherished paddock companions, sports massage can enhance flexibility, reduce discomfort, and support long‑term physical health.
Benefits of sports massage:
-
Reduces muscle tension
-
Improves flexibility and range of motion
-
Enhances performance
-
Supports post‑exercise recovery
-
Identifies issues early
-
Helps prevent injury
-
Promotes relaxation and reduces stress
-
Improves circulation
-
Supports older horses and those in light work
-
Complements veterinary and allied health care
Please note when planning a sports massage that your horse needs 2-3 days off afterwards.
Following a sports massage, the horse’s musculoskeletal and circulatory systems undergo a period of physiological adjustment. Massage increases blood flow, promotes lymphatic drainage, and releases myofascial and muscular tension. These changes can temporarily alter muscle tone, joint range of motion, and overall proprioception.
This rest period helps reduce the risk of post‑treatment soreness and ensures the horse receives the full therapeutic benefit of the session.
Inclement weather
Equine massage should not be performed on cold or wet muscles. Cold tissue has reduced circulation and flexibility, increasing the risk of discomfort or micro‑strain during treatment. Warm, dry muscles respond more effectively to soft‑tissue work, allowing for safer palpation, better release, and improved therapeutic outcomes. For your horse’s comfort and safety, please ensure they are dry before your appointment and you have access to a suitable undercover area.
Laser Phototherapy
Laser phototherapy is a gentle, non‑invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to support healing within the horse’s body. It helps increase circulation, reduce inflammation, ease pain, and encourage tissue repair at a cellular level.
This therapy can be beneficial for muscle soreness, soft‑tissue injuries, wound healing, arthritis, and overall recovery, making it a valuable addition to both performance and everyday equine care.
I use a SpectraVet Class 3R 12‑diode super‑pulsed laser as part of my therapeutic toolkit. This device delivers gentle, targeted phototherapy to support healing, reduce inflammation, and improve tissue function. Class 3R lasers are considered low‑risk and safe when used correctly, and my unit is fully compliant with Tasmanian regulations. It allows me to provide effective, non‑invasive treatment that complements my hands‑on work.
How Laser Therapy Works
Natural relief with lasting benefits, laser phototherapy helps reduce pain and inflammation in a way that’s remarkably similar to anti‑inflammatory medications but without drugs. The light energy interacts with cells to calm inflammation, ease discomfort, and support tissue repair by reducing prostaglandins and inflammatory cytokines - the same pathways targeted by NSAIDs (eg Bute/Phenylbutazone).
Unlike medication, the effects of laser therapy are cumulative. Each session builds on the last, improving circulation, oxygenation, and cellular recovery. Over time, this creates a stronger, longer‑lasting reduction in pain and stiffness, helping horses move more freely and comfortably.
In short: Laser therapy offers the same anti‑inflammatory benefits as NSAIDs, naturally and progressively - with results that strengthen the more it’s used.

Redlight Therapy
Red light therapy uses gentle, low‑level wavelengths of light to naturally stimulate the body’s healing processes. It helps soften tight muscles, improve circulation, and support overall relaxation and recovery.
This therapy is often used to ease everyday soreness, maintain healthy movement, and promote general wellbeing in horses of all ages and workloads.
Red light therapy is most effective in short, targeted sessions of around 30 minutes. This is the optimal time for the light to be absorbed and for the body to activate its natural healing and anti‑inflammatory processes.
In practice, I have found that horses with kissing spines often respond very positively to red light therapy, showing improved comfort through the back and a noticeable softening of protective muscle patterns.
Horses experiencing laminitis also tend to enjoy and benefit from this gentle modality, as it supports circulation and helps ease secondary muscular tension that develops from compensatory posture.
When to use laser versus redlight therapy?
Laser therapy is used when deeper, more targeted treatment is required. Its concentrated light penetrates further into tissue, making it suitable for addressing specific issues such as soft‑tissue injuries, joint inflammation, chronic pain, and areas needing accelerated tissue repair.
Red light therapy is ideal for more superficial or broad‑area treatment. It supports circulation, reduces mild muscle tension, and promotes general recovery and relaxation. It is commonly used for maintenance, post‑exercise recovery, and overall wellbeing.
Both modalities complement each other, and the choice depends on the depth, severity, and nature of the tissue being treated.
Combined modalities
Every horse presents with its own unique patterns of tension, compensation, and movement, so each session is tailored to what that individual horse needs on the day. By combining sports massage, red light therapy, and laser phototherapy, I can address both superficial and deeper‑layer issues within the same treatment.
Massage helps release muscular tension and improve overall mobility, while red light therapy supports circulation, relaxation, and soft‑tissue recovery. Laser therapy allows for targeted treatment of deeper structures, inflammation, and chronic areas of restriction. Used together, these modalities complement one another and create a more comprehensive therapeutic effect.
To complement my manual techniques, I may use the Epiony Thermal Wand or the Horse Halo massage gun during your horse’s treatment. The Thermal Wand provides targeted heat to increase circulation and improve tissue elasticity, while the massage gun delivers controlled percussive therapy to help release deeper muscular tension. These tools allow me to address tight, reactive, or fatigued areas more effectively and support optimal therapeutic outcomes.
I am consistently seeing excellent results in horses receiving regular bodywork sessions with this combined approach - improved comfort, better posture, enhanced movement quality, and a more relaxed, willing way of going.
Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss this approach for your horse or pony.

Pip Godfrey, Sandford
Tash has been helping my horses for the past 12 months, and the difference she has made has been incredible. From supporting my laminitic pony to feel comfortable in his body again, to helping my growing young horse manage soreness during constant growth spurts, her care and knowledge have been invaluable.
Tash is one of those rare people who truly understands horses. Her calm, kind, and knowledgeable approach immediately puts both horses and owners at ease. My horse Pringles is the perfect example of this. Historically, Pringles has been very wary of bodywork and uncomfortable with unfamiliar people handling her. Tash took the time to work patiently with her, starting with less invasive methods and building trust at Pringles’ pace.
The improvement in Pringles has been amazing. She is now happier in her work, moving more freely, and feels stronger and more comfortable through her muscles and joints. Overall, she is a much happier horse.
I cannot recommend Tash highly enough. She has helped all of my horses immensely, and I’m so grateful for the care and dedication she brings to every session.
Kara Berry, Seven Mile Beach
Tash from Heart and Soul Equine Therapies has been treating my Warmblood gelding, Arlie, for almost twelve months, and the results have been exceptional. Throughout this time, Arlie has received a variety of treatments including red light therapy, laser therapy, and massage, all tailored to support his wellbeing and performance as a competition horse.
Before beginning treatment with Tash, Arlie experienced recurring ulcer issues and required ongoing maintenance ulcer medication. Since working with Tash, those issues have significantly improved to the point where he no longer requires ulcer treatment. I have also been able to reduce the amount of joint medication he is on, which has been a huge positive for his long-term health and comfort.
As a competition horse owner, ensuring Arlie feels and performs at his best is incredibly important to me. The difference in him, both physically and mentally, has been remarkable. He is noticeably looser through his body, happier in himself, and recovering far better after training sessions and competitions.
Beyond the treatments themselves, Tash brings such a calm, empathetic, and genuine energy to every session. Horses instantly respond to her, and Arlie is no exception. He is typically very much a ‘one-person horse,’ yet he absolutely adores Tash and now recognises her car when she arrives. Watching the trust and connection they have developed has been so special.
Tash’s knowledge, professionalism, and dedication to doing what is best for the horse are second to none. She takes the time to understand each horse as an individual and genuinely cares about achieving the best possible outcome for both horse and rider.
I cannot recommend Tash and Heart and Soul Equine Therapies highly enough to anyone looking to support their horse’s health, comfort, and performance.
